Can you effectively clean a Gti fuel tank internals?

Noticed some rust floating around in my fuel tank whilst draining the fuel out.
The "pot" in the middle with the gauze has a load of rusty flakes around it

The fuel filler has allready been replaced many years ago,but only a low amount of miles ago. I will have a good look at it anyway.

Is there an effective way of cleaning it all out?
Or am I better off getting a new tank?
I would rather pay out for a new tank if its a much better option.

How much is a new tank?and where to buy from?

Thankyou peeps

Yes, you can effectively clean them, but if there's flaking paint it will be difficult to prevent it flaking more in the future. One option is to get it repainted/lined internally, dubboy did this on a tank.

Did someone do this with por15?
Not sure of the results, but I often see this por15 come up on various forums.
