Campaign not starting

Hi all,

I posted a week or so ago about my Campaign cutting out and losing power/revs and then not starting again.

I think it's an electrical issue with the fuel supply as when I turn the key up to crank it over the fuel pump isn't priming as before.

I fitted a new Bosch fuel pump last night and still no joy. I have tried 2 relays, the original (with the number 2 on top) and a second I have (probably from an old MK1 I owned before, with number 63 on it), but again I'm still not getting the new pump to prime.

Any advice?

Should I chuck a new relay in? or should I look further into the electrics and wiring? despite not know what I'm looking for.

Cheers.

Had a similar issue with my campaign, turned out to be a faulty distributor. Had another one installed & timed up all ok now.

When the car cuts out is it all of a sudden? Can you keep the revs up with your right foot or does it cut out completely?

cutting out

It won't start at all now and when it came to the end last time out, i was able to put my right foot through the problem for a time, then it seemed to recover, then i lost the revs and power again, as i tried flooring it to go through the issue it then lost all revs and cut out.

in addition to my last post, I'm not getting a voltage to the fuel pump, that wouldn't be a distributor fault, would it?

not all mk1 relays will prime the system. you dont need it to, the main thing is it runs when cranking. if it doesnt you probably dont have a rev counter signal from the coil -ve, either due to a wire problem, tci unit fail or dizzy/wire problem.

to start with, fit a relay 17 or 18 to the fuel pump relay socket, this will make the pump come on with ignition. if not, check fuse and pump wiring. if it does, try starting the car. if it fires up then its a relay, socket or wiring issue. if not, its a dizzy or wiring problem
