Bloody Fuel Line!

I haven't used my car in a few weeks and went to start it tonight and the battery was flat. I asked my neighbour to give me a jump start. Got the leads connected and fired it up. It started but my neighbour shouted "turn it off!". The bloody fule lines perished and petrol was spraying everywhere!

The perished pipe's the one on the right from the fuel filter.

As you can see from the next couple of pictures it's been re-routed passing through an old aftermarket additive type thingy held in the engine bay with plumbers fittings. There's a pipe in decent condition coming from this to the fuel metering valve.

I'm thinking about changing the fuel filter, removing the perished pipe and aftermarket additive thingy, and then just connecting the remaining fuel pipe that's in good condition to the new fuel filter. Would this sort it out? As for parts would I just need the fuel filter (431 133 511 ), seals for either side of the filter (049 133 696 B and N 013 812 8 ) and a jubilee clip?

Andy,

I have full metal fuel lines and repair pieces - One could be used to join up just under the floor pan or in the engine bay.  The repair sections for the engine bay are bent as per the originals.

Thanks Rich

I may get some sometime, but would what I've said work in the mean time as I need to get the car back on the road ASAP?

Andy - as long as you use suitable high pressure fuel hose (probably why the other has perished) you should be fine.  If all the hose is the same I would expect more leaks in the future.  Unleaded petrol has to have a particular type of hose material so that it does not perish.
