air flow meter problems car wont start HELP!!!!!

hi,
basically i got a mk1 golf with a mk2 1989 k-jet 16v lump in it,
all was working fine untill the other day when after a good bit of throttle it ran lumpy, stalled. it then restarted temporrally then died for good
there is a spark and fuel getting in to the injector head from the filter but then none will come out of the 4 outlets any tips? or just a new air flow meter. is this the problem?
cheers

Probably worth taking off the plastic induction pipework and checking the flap can go up and down, and isn't stuck at the bottom of the air flow meter.

Hi, I am having exactly the same problem on my MK1 at the minute.

Did the same as you and swapped to a diferent metering head, but no difference.

Plenty of fuel in the filter, and when I loosened the screws on top of the metering head that attach the injector pipes to, there was fuel there to!

I also swapped the injectors and no fuel there -

Is it possible to get a blockage in the pipes?

Only part I havent renewed / replaced is the accumulator - could I be getting insufficent fuel pressure?

Help us please 8O

have you tired taking off an injector and see if the fuel is getting to the end of the lines to the injectors - if they are - then its a set of new injectors required.

Madone with the two Cabs 82 (UK RHD) and 85 (US LHD) (92 sold)

It sounds like you have a bit of fuel pressure, but not enough to open up the injectors - it needs 3 bar minimum. If you've already swap-tested a new air flow meter, then its worth checking out the fuel lines, fuel accumulator and fuel pump. I suspect there is rust/dirt in the system, somewhere!

3 bar produced by accumulator ? i read some were else on the forum 17psi is needed ? but this doesnt equal 3bar

( 44psi = 3bar ) - I got a pressure problem also been trying to find out !

sled-bmx, theres a injector test some were on here or link to it, shows you how to test your injectors ….

i believe it's 47psi to open the injectors. i think it's about 76psi to run proerly (please check) the metering head can be shimmed if your getting good pressure to the head.
