advise on a standard backbox
can anyone recommend a standard/oem style backbox for my mk1?
the one ive got is from gsf. ive only had it a year and it sounds rubish.
it gives a blowing/farting noise and chuggs at idle.
i just want something that purrrs nicely and isnt loud.
i know a genuine vag box would be the best option but the specific one for my car (1100 GG) is obsolete.
i was thinking maybe a gti box?

Just had a powerflow s/s fitted to my gti, told the guy I wanted it quiet and it sounds spot on, a lttle louder than standard and fitted with a near standard tail pipe!!

are you sure it's the back box and not the join between either the back box or the centre section. a hole will gap will make it pop and bubble when it shouldn't.
i'm running a full system from gsf (except manifold) and it's not missed a beat since i got 2 years ago.

I have an ansa 4:1 manifold. Other than that the exhaust is standard (from GSF). It sounds fine. The only issue I have is where it meets the ansa downpipe - bit of a leak there that I need to get sorted - other than that it's great.
