1.8 GTI injection, no pressure in fuel system

I have a '94 Sportline which has lost pressure in the fuel system. I cannot hear the pump running when I first turn on the ignition but when I removed the fuel pump it worked OK. Despite this the car engine still runs. I guess it must be an electrical fault.  Any ideas as to where the problem lies? Help please!

How are you testing pressure? If the engine runs, and its a K-Jet, then there must be some pressure in the fuel system otherwise the injectors wouldn't open.

k-jet dont always prime the fuel pump on the first turn of the key. if the car actually runs as said the main pump MUST be working otherwise it would never run in a million years

Thanks for the feedback CabbyBrad. I've removed the relay (part # 321 906 059G), which connections should I bridge? There are five male connectors on the relay (numbered 87,30,15,31 & 31b) and eight female connections on the fuse panel (numbered 1-8) .

Thanks everyone, really helpful, I'm back in business.  I jumped the relay and now the fuel pump is working fine.

ok if jumping it works then you need a new relay, gsf sell em. leavign it as it is could result in a fiery death if you crash as the pump wont cut out!
