1.8 backbox onto a 1.5

hi people, will a backbox off a 1.8 fit a 1.5, just the back box??

Same shape but different pipe diameter to connect to I think? So, if you can use a reducer sleeve (and probably cut off a little of one of the pipes) it could be made to fit. I think the non-GTI is 1 3/4" an GTI 2" pipe diameter???? rubjonny will probably know for sure.

Also when you say 1.8, do you mean 1.8 GTI hatchback or cabby up to 1986; 1.8 Clipper 1986 on, or 1.8 GTI convertible 1986 on? Because the later cabby exhaust back box is different to the earlier (and hatchback).

Its a different shape/mounting and so its not a straight swap. From my vague memory, the mounts are different (too different to easily adapt) and maybe the overall shape is different too. I think the tailpipe comes out at a slightly different place, to suit the clipper body kit.

Anything can be MADE to fit, given enough time and effort. Personally, I'd not purchase a back box then do the alterations to make it fit, I'd buy the right one to start with.
