1.6 GTI fueling problems!!!!! HELP!!!
I am having some serious problems starting my car after it has been stood for two months whilst i have been changing the colour to a very matt NATO green.. … anyway
Just Before it went into my garage the engine would only run over 30,000 revs i was told i need to change the metering head and everything would be alright…!!
Then My fuel pump died thanks to the gunk in my tank not being cleaned out by the previous owner when the filler neck was changed.. so i have cleaned the tank, replaced the pump with a non genuine pump (cheers guys) replaced the filter, relay and the metering head..
Now i have fuel pressure at the filter
But when i turn the engine over it sounds like it is not going to fire… I have a good spark on all the new plugs and leads.
There is fuel at the warm up regulator as i have loosened one of the bolts and been covered in petrol, also i have swapped it for a spare one i had.
When i take out the cold start valve and turn it over nothing comes out of the valve..but there is fuel going to it.
when i squirt a little fuel in the inlet manifold (where the cold start should be) the engine fires up then dies straight away!!!! :dontknow:
The metering head could be faulty as i got it off ebay.. the description said worked fine prior to removal….. :x
Has any one got any suggestions its really doing my nut in!!!!
PLEASE can any1 HELp????

the crud could be everywhere, theres a filter in the warm up regulator, and cold start valve, u need to undo the pipes and take a look, and injectors could be blocked.

Have you tried testing the fuel injectors to see what output they are generating? Useful guide here.

NATO,
If the sold start injector is no firing for ~8secs from cold crank you need to check the following:
12v at the CSI
Wiring from injector to Thermo time switch
Operation of the thermo time switch
These are easy quick tests and ar covered in haynes i think.
Only then worry about fuel supply.
Oh and do Prowler's injection test as mentioned above
Also worth reading this thread:

try blowing the injectors out with compressed air, I was amazed how much crap came out!! You can also flusch them through with a siringe filled with petrol. I fitted new injectors but afterwards I realised I could have cleaned them out, I tried them again and they are fine now well keep those ase spares then…
