Yet again more electrical faults with my golf cab gti !!!!

Every time I fix a fault another one appears but I will not give in. The latest one on my shopping list of electrical problems is the horn and left side hazard lights. The horn works when tested of the battery and also if you run a live directly from the battery and using the normal circuits earth it also works. the relay works and the fuses are fine. It seems there is no live going to the horn (blk/yel wire). With the hazard lights the flasher works on the dash and the right side also works but the complete left side doesn't also if you indicate left at the same time they work. The relay is switching and the fuses are fine. Could this be linked to the horn fault as they are both on the left front of the car? does anybody know if these both use the same wiring harnesses or live's etc :dontknow:  :dontknow: thanks guys.

The horn is negative switched earthed, through the steering column, so when you press the horn pad it shorts to earth.
Its relay pos 6 No 53. Take it out and inspect it and clean the terminals up on it to make sure you have good contact. Just because it clicks it doesn't mean it's switching over the poles.

Are you testing with the key in the ign at position 1?
The key need to in the ign and turned to pos 1  to make it work.

There is a brown wire that runs from the end of the column and onto the steering rack inside the engine bay. This can become worn, so check that for continuity.

I would start at the horn pad end and check that the contact tab the ring under the wheel is in good condition and making conatct

I have had a similar issue with my indicators and it was cured by taking the bulbs out of the holders, cleaning them up and the contacts.

I then double checked the front indicator wiring where it goes into the plugs and gave it a wiggle, all seems good for now.

I suppose it's going to be a case of tracing the wires back.

Clean up all your fuses and relays, replace older fuses and relays just in case.  Check your earths as well its often overlooked especially in the cab wiring.
If you have an alarm or immobiliser that might  be causing issues.

I'd also consider checking the binnacle connections just in case they are dirty too.
