Wont turn over from key!

Hi ive had the motor out of my mk1 clipper 1.8 1991 for a while put it all back in and it wont turn over on the key. at first i thought it was the starter changed that and it still does the same! ive changed the terminals cleaned connections etc and still nothing. has anyone else had this problem?? might replace the main battery earth anyone know where i can get one? cheers

Have you done obvious, simple tests? Do you get dashboard lights? 12V at the starter motor solenoid terminal? etc etc.

all dash lights battery up, you can here the solenoid in the starter click its like it doesnt get enough power through havent got a voltmeter so cant check really i think ill have to get one on the weekend

Could be the battery is low, will still have enough juice to illuminate the dash lights, but not enough to crank over?
When did you charge the battery last?

nah it not that ive charged it and tested it its right up

Do a rough & ready test then. Turn the headlights on, and see if they dim slightly, or go off completely, when you turn the key to start. Dim slightly = battery ok. Go off completely = flat battery.

But….you kinda need a voltmeter.

yea the batterys right up. im gonna have to get a voltmeter it doing my head in!
