Wiring loom comparison in Windsor Maidenhead Slough Egham

Hi,

I've got a C 1.1 and i've restored the shell and kitted it out with a fully rebuilt 1.8 gti lump and K jet system.

Now to the point, I need a look at someones wiring under the hood, 90% of the plugs are in but there is that last 10% which I just don't have a clue about!

If someone would like a cup o tea and some mk1 banter and could pop over one evening or next weekend (15.09.07) so I can see first hand what goes where.

I live in Windsor near Legoland but the car is 10 minutes down the road in Binfield.

Sorry to ask but there are no wiring diagrams anywhere and the haynes doesn't really show what goes where… :dontknow:

In the meantime if you post up a pic of each wire / plug you're not sure about, someone will know where it should go…

I'll try and take some pictures tomorrow and post em up but they are random single wires with spade connector which branch out of the loom half way down etc… Nightmare!

I didn't remove the loom from the car but the guy who did marked it up with felt tip pen in the rain!!! You can guess what happend!?

I really need someone with a good heart to spent 30mins over with the car. Someone must be able to help or is no one living in Berkshire running a standard engine anymore?

Here is a picture taken a while ago, it's all in there now. JUST THE WIRING TO DO!!!! HELP!

I've not seen an orange engine in a Mk1 before - looks cool  8)

Did you replace the standard 1.1 loom with a GTI one? If not, there'll be a few differences, which might be the source of your problem.

I can't help you out unfortunately as my GTI is off the road, but if the pics don't help, pop along to the Berkshire Meet next Weds (19th Sep) you'll find a wealth of knowledge, plus a few people who live quite close to you who may be able to lend you a hand.

Thanks! I love all those painted krate engines in those muscle cars so I've spent sometime working on the finish of my engine and gearbox. All shinny (black box flight recorder orange) high temp paint.

Anyway I bought a GTI complete and have have replaced all the parts on the C. Engine, loom, fueling system, roll bars, brakes, everything!

Can't believe there is no one out there who can spare half an hour!

I'll pop down the meet and see if I can talk someone into doing the right thing…

Thanks for trying Rich, hope your cars back on the road soon.

A Haynes wiring diagram is your best bet.

Come down to the 'berkshire' (shouldn't really call it that but anyway) mk1OC meet mate, we meet on the A33 between Reading and Bsingstoke:

i'm sure there will be a few GTIs to haave a poke around

Get some pics and details up of the ones you're not sure about, wire colours etc.

Looks really nice btw  8)
