Wiring Loom!!

Hi all

Ive just taken the dash out of my 82 Gti to find a birds nest of wires which someone has chopped about and decided to call a fuse box.

Im going to need to change alot (if not all) of this and aquire a new fuse box and loom.

It has the original CE1 fuse box and ive heard that its best to upgrde to a CE2 fuse box. Am i right in thinking this?

Has anyone got any advice on where i could find this parts (Loom and Fuse box)?
And
If im correct in thinking it best to upgrade?

Thanks in advance,

Dan :-)

its alot of work to swap to the newer loom you will need to swap everything so basicly stripping the car or try and splice bits of the 2 together

i would try and repair it or get a loom and fuzebox that is the same as what you have then you wont have to run new wiring through the car

id look on the breaking a car section for the parts

If I can't find any doner wiring it looks like a refurbisment will be on the cards.

Its reassuring to hear someone say that what I've been confronted with doesn't look badly wrong or dangerous. So thank you :-)

yeah thats the old ceramic fusebox, best to bin that if possible. it cant even handle k-jet injection they melt the fuel pump pin on the fusebox, though i can see yours has had the fuel pump rleay bypass fitted so that at least isnt an issue. the other problem with them is there are no clips to hold the plugs in, so they can just fall out, amazing

if you do decide to replace/refurbish go CE1 at least, or CE2. CE1 is mk1 golf from 1983 onwards, and pre-90 mk2 golf. CE2 is 90spec mk2 and mk3.

if you have the late dash and large rear lights then go for a mk1 gofl loom complete, direct swap. mk1 cabrio post 83 will do for engien bay and dash, but rear loom has no wash/wipe plus you will need to splice your old rear light plugs on
