Wipers for MOT!!!

Hi dudes, I've taken my golf 1.1c rusty old shell, re sprayed it, put the Polo GT engine in, in 10 weeks, wanna get it going for BugJam, all it failed on the MOT was headlight adjustment (sorted), slight fuel leak (sorted) and fog lights (also sorted.) All that is left to do is get the wipers working. They were temperemental before the MOT, but started working fine as I drove it in, but typically when the tester came to try them, they stopped working. Now its sat in the garage, waiting for the wipers top get sorted, and I can drive it home. so frustrating. I dismantled the wiper and indicator stalk, tried a different relay, checked the fuses, there is power to the switch, not sure if its getting back out because the garage closed at 6.00 last night before I could fix it. I have looked at all the threads on here and am running out of ideas, does anyone know what it might be? Cheers guys.

As you have looked at most things next thing is to find out if you have power at the wiper plug next to the motor , the motor may be duff [rare] or siezed spindles are holding it up . If no power , work backwards .

You have pulled out the fuze ? Double check .

I'm not getting any water squirt for the windscreen either, i think its all on the same switch: I.E. when u pull the washer stalk back, it should squirt and wipe 3 times, I'm getting none of that. thanks chudd, I appreciate it.

Stalk or wiring to it  :dontknow:

I had a similar problem. Turned out there were only two of the long bolts that hold the stalk to the column. Once the third one was in, contact was properly made and it all worked ok. Worth checking earths too and connections at the back of the fuse box if it is intermittent.

Had similar problems:
washer pump intermitent - traced it to poor contacts in the switch on column - removed shroud, using little piece emery paper cleaned copper contacts in switch and now works 100%.
wiper function  and automatic stop erratic - poor wiring contact at back of fuseboard due to age causing relay malfunction (am planning replacing all spade connections soon these seem to be the major cause of all my intermitent faults) and check earths.

Sorted it, where the dash loom goes into the fusebox, the black wire for intermittant was burned so badly that there was no contact.

Cheers guys for the input.
