Wiper and radio

Hi
Having a problem with both my wipers and radio. When i start up the car the wipers are extremely slow on the first speed and then just stop half way on the higher speed. But after a few minutes on the motorway the speed seems to be perfect but back to square one once I'm town driving again. Similar with the radio, comes on and shorts off continually but again when i leave it off until i get to the motorway and then turn it on it works again but won't play CD's at all (i know it does work). Seems like there's a lack of power to run it. I have made sure all other electrics were off when using them.
Sorry new to everything MK1 but would appreciate any suggestions.

sound like either a earth fault or alternator fault. but check obdvios things 1st like battery, tight connections on batt, alternator fuse box etc
to check for earth fault get a voltmeter and measure battery voltage then measure it at the radio connections and also wiper connections it sould be very close to the reading you get at the batery ie if it 12.8 you should get approx 12.6 if its like 1 volt less ie 11.8 you got connection problems. for alt fault check bat volt when engine off 12.8 volts then when its runng test again it should read approx 1.5 to 2 volts more ie 14.3etc (thes voltages are for ref only) this will show that the alternator is produsing voltage. but these tests are not conclusive and ther may be other faults but at least its a start.
