Window Switch wiring - mk2 style 5 pin switch

Hoping someone can help who might have access to wiring diagrams as I can't find what I need via Google!

I have a set of Mk2 Golf electric window regulators which I have just fitted to my Mk1 doors. The regulators are in and work fine however the switches I had with these (used stuff from Ebay) are different!

The switches both look like this:

One, as above has six pins on the back, the other only has 5 (pin number 3, top left, is missing).

The six pin switch I have wired up fine as per diagrams found on here and on other websites.
The 5 pin switch however is another story - I just can't get it to do anything!
I have even taken it apart and studied the mechanism inside to work out what the switch is doing to the pins in each position. I am starting to think that it is duff and not making contact somewhere inside?!?!?
If I get a chance after work tomorrow I am going to wire the six pin one onto the other set of window wires, just to rule out the wiring/motor but all should be fine as it worked a couple of days ago.

It is a SEAT part, No: 1L0 959 855
The VW part I believe is 191 959 855

I have found a SEAT wiring diagram (Really good one actually!), however the range of cars it covers (93 - 99) must all have six pin switches, as that is all that is detailed.

Can anyone help with a diagram that show how a 5 pin is wired?

I would guess the switch could be dead -

On the 6 pin switch pin number 3 is a live - its strange that there is no number 3

Does your 5 pin switch illuminate?

Not at the moment, LOL but apparently yes…

The guys selling the windows added that one switch lit up green (6 pin switch) and the other red.
I have taken the top off the five pin switch and the is a little bulb in there with a red rubber sleeve over it.

I think I'm going to have to try and get another 6 pin via Ebay… :dontknow:

I have a couple of spare 6 pins I can test and sell you it if you want?

I've just ordered a mk2 electric window kit to try fitting into my cabby - is it a straight fit or require some messing around?

They required some work TBH.

I started on the drivers door then once I got it working, whipped it out and copied the mods (in reverse) for the passenger side which then went in and worked first time!

There are different types of regulator though depending on year, two door vs five door etc.

Did you buy on Ebay?

This is what mine looked like:

Thanks Dom.

PM'd.

I think it is the switch at fault. I have swpped the good switch onto the wiring for the other window and all works as expected…

That switch is either duff or I am too stupid to wire up a five pin switch!

the SEAT switch i bet is designed for the cabby/corrado/passat 1 touch system, or it could just be buggered

Hi there,

My first post on here :-)

I have the same problem I have a set of 5 pin switches on my golf however I damaged one of them and had to go looking for a replacement, all I could get was the 6 pin variety as AL_Mk1 got.

I need to figure out how to wire up the new 6 pins or handier still get my hands on a 5 pin switch.

I see a circuit diagram on here for the 6pin if anyone has a good working 5 pin switch they have for sale then let me know or even the part number for one would do as there's nothing written on the 5 pin switch itself.

Cheers
Michael

Hello mate…

I threw my 5 pin out as I assumed it was deffo dead, as I couldn't get it to do anything. The 6 pin switches are now in and working, and only have five wires on them, so you can probably add 6 pin switches to your set up quite easily?

I wired mine as per the guide in the link above and all is good.
The two centre pins go to the motor.
One top and one bottom pin are both live and one of the remaining pins is the earth. (Check the diagram for the pin numbers)

If you have that combination of wires, then you should be good with a 6 pin. the last free pin is for the internal lighting of the switch - I left that for now.
