Where to buy cable for wiring?

Hi,

I have bought myself a stripped out Mk1 and am going to attempt to bring it back to normality.  First job is to get the reverse light working?  The switch on the gearbox is missing so i will buy this from GSF but i then need to wire this back to the fusebox i guess, or does it connect straight to the reverse lights wires??

Anyway the main question is where can i buy the cable for this?  And what do i need?  I will also need to run new speaker wires and probably some other ones so would like to use the correct coloured wires so that if anything goes wrong in the future it is standard!

From the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual it looks like i need 0.5mm wire but do i need a specific rating?

Any help would be great, many thanks

ud find it alot more easier to buy a complete mk1 wiring loom, keep checking on here, ask around, look on ebay….. will make life much easier and it will all plug in back to normal and your laffing..

if you get stuck look on the sticky in this section of the fusebox wiring locations etc

Thanks for the website.  I'll have a look at that.

The wiring loom is all in place, but looking at the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manuals i'm sure of the wires are the wrong colours!  I just need a few bits of cable to put speakers in, wire up the reverse switch etc.

cheers

There is wiring from the reverse lights, i haven't checked yet but i guess this routes back to the fusebox.  But in the engine bay i just have a plug on top of the gearbox with 2 blade connections and that's it, there are no wires at all.

Would i be right in thinking i need the GSF reverse light switch to fit onto the blade connections and then route cable back to the same point on the fusebox as the cables from the rear of the car?

Cheers

have a look on the back of your fusebox mate….
the WHITE block D  will have a blk/red wire in pin 16 and a blu/blk wire in pin 19…
these are you reverse light switch wires.  if you trace them back to where they are chopped off or whatnot or rejoin some wiring on and re thread them through to the gearbox then spade connect them onto the switch….. have a route round the bay and see if you can find them tho,if they arent connected they must be there sumwhere unless of course they have been chopped….. you can also touch the 2 ends together if your quite certain they are the right ones and the reverse lights will come on…..

16- blk/red- reverse light switch (M/T) or starter/inhibitor & reverse light switch pin 15 (A/T) (MK2 models)

19- blu/blk- reverse light switch or starter/inhibitor & reverse light switch pin R & diode (A/T) (MK2 models)
