What is this?

Hi,
   come across this today in a 1.8 gti mk1 golf, it was placed underneath the hazard switch where a blanking plate would be and wondered what is is for?

It's made by Blaupunkt with number 8 901 720 020

Its a speaker fader.. Front/rear adjuster.

there are certain reasons or ways that might provokes the usage of such switch.. i really don't know the exact reason wh that switch is placed in that manner.
