What a silly thing I've done.

Not had this car long, and it's had a deal of conversion work done by somebody else, so still finding my way around it.

Got an abf 2.0 16v  :D
the battery's in the spare wheel well  :?

Not been well, first time out and about…

Had the battery out lately for a re charge, went to put it in today on my way out.  Connected up wrong way round…..   :banghead:   Easy enough if like me a) you're not thinking, cos b) you've done this so many times you needn't, but c) it's not clear which way round cos someone put it in the boot so you neeed to think, stupid!

Had it connected for maybe five seconds.

Smoke from under bonnet.  Alternator and some wiring from there to starter, etc.  Didn't have time to have a proper look, so had to go out in other car, not going to get to look at the mess till tomorrow, but…

What can I expect?  Is it a fried alt + loads of other stuff, or what?

 :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Or may I get away with it?

The Best Driver's Car I've Ever Had!

Most electrical items should be okay but the items affected might be:

Alternator
TCI
Dashboard
Stereo?
Clock?
Other insturments?

lights, starter motor, wiper motor, fuel pump, etc shoudl be ok since its a simple motor or bulb, all told. And the circuits will still work but backwards, so any open switches won't have energised the relveant item.
