Washer Jets/Pump

Hi all, I need to get my washer pump to work have tried everything but not getting a live feed to the pump. I have checked fuses and thay seems ok (No 11 fuse) It is a G reg GTI cabriolet. I need to check the wire from fuse box to pump and how would I know i the switch is ok?

U can run a wire from the battery earth to a 12v bulb (capless side light bulb will do) then run a wire from that to the fuse box, remove the washer pump fuse and connect the wire to each female terminal and if the bulb lights up then the switch and wire to fish box are ok and you'll be looking at the wire from the fuse box to the pump.
Alternitivly you can check for voltage at the fuse box using a multimeter if you have/ can borrow one.

Good luck!

take the stalks cowling off first and have a look at the base of the washer switch. on mine it was simply a bent and dirty washer contact in the stalk, quick buff with sandpaper and a slight bend and all was well again

You want the multimeter on the 20v setting as ur battery is 12volts the best way to test is using a test bulb though as it also proves the integrity of the wire e.g. No high resistance, I'm not sure of the fuse number it will be in your owners manual if you still have it, I'd check you definitely don't have a live at the pump before you go any futher as washer pumps arnt uncommon to fault.

Hi all, I did as Rubjonny said and it worked the trick but now my main beams are constantly staying on. what could I have done that this has happened?

the main beam switch is also on the washer stalk, but its joined to the flasher switch with a clip. you may have dislodged this clip when playing about. remove the cowling again and this time look at the base of the flasher switch
