There should be 3 terminals on the rear of the oil gauge. + Terminal to an ignition live, - Terminal to Ground, S Terminal to the new oil sender unit, you will need to put a new cable in for this. Obviously You need a connection for the nightlight too, run this to the nearest existing night light in the dash (E.g Ashtray)
At the engine end you need an M10 Tee Piece (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360566513161) Use this if you want to retain the original oil light sender instead of using the one on the pressure gauge sender. On the sender unit there should be 2 terminals if you have a dual circuit one, your new wire should connect up to the terminal marked "S" on the sender. Hope this is of some help…

Hey Burbo,

I've got a nice simple VDO diagram and description as a word document that may help. I just cannot see how to attach it to these posts?

Hello Burbo,

In case you want, VDO wiring diagram at .

The script that came with it is "The oil pressure sender must be of the two terminal type. Its quite alot bigger than the original oil pressure switch (which only has one terminal). There are two types of pressure sender, a low pressure and a high pressure. They look the same except for the pressure values stamped on the side. The low pressure type fits in place of the oil pressure switch on the side of the head (8v engine). The high pressure type fits in place of one of the senders on top of the oil filter housing (if you have a 16v engine you will need the high pressure type because there is no place to fit it on the head).
Sorry I can't remember the values stamped on them, but if you get silly readings on the gauge then you'll know if you've got the wrong one. When fitting the new sender, remove the original sender and then plug the original wire into one of the connectors one the new one, once fitted. Then fit your new wire you have run onto the other connector. If the needle goes "full scale" when the ignition is turned on, just swap the wires over. You shouldn't need a new oil temp sender, you can use the original one. on an 8v engine I think the sender is located on the oil filter housing. on a 16v engine it is located on the back of the head. on both, the wire colour you are looking for is green/black. Bear in mind that you cannot connect into the wire so that the gauge and MFA both read from the same sender, you'll get incorrect readings. Either use the gauge or the MFA. Aternatively you could use the temp gauge for something else like inlet temp etc. its up to you.

Regards,

Ivan

Sorry about the 5 empty posts. That was me trying to get my head around trying to attach the picture to the post. Didn't realise the failed attempts were going on the board.:ocf_emoticons__dontknow:
