VDO clocks

I have a 1982 mk1 golf 1800 8v gti, with MFA. I just wondered if anyone knows what the 1-2 switch on the top right of the VDO clocks does? I can't figure it out for the life of me.

it changes the trip computer mode, 1 = current trip, 2 = average of all the previous trips. if you press the button for a few seconds it wipers the selected trip mode memory :)
