The roof and horn mystery.

Hi all,

Two things that are working/arent working on my 93 cabby.

Problem 1 (confusion more then a problem)

The electric roof works perfectly up and down, BUT as far as im aware it should only function with the engine off…

and yes you guessed it, it works in all stages of ignition,
igntiton in all positions apart from off and no key (OBVIOUSLY) cf_emoticons__BangHead:Can anyone shed any light on this?

Problem 2

My horn isnt working? ive checked and changed the fuse in the fusebox in the foot well and still nothing?
any advice?

Have you checked the connections in the steering wheel as these could be causing the horn issue?

Hi,

Power hood usually only works with engine off, this is to stop you putting the roof up whilst driving.

There was a thread on here sometime ago about getting around  it and so that's what may of been done.

As for the horn a few things spring to mind. On twin horn set ups as the wiring gets older there is a current drain so not enough to power two horns.

So I would start with this.

1) take horn relay out and clean the contacts.
try horn.

2) open bonnet and have a check of the column to steering rack earth wire.


3) take steering wheel off and check that the horn ring tab on the indicator assembly is ok and not bent or broken.

4) disconnect one horn and try if the horn sounds try swapping over. You can power the horns directly off a battery to test they actually work.

Remember these are negative switched so permanent live.

If they both work off battery but with only one connected you could fit a relay so they are powered from the battery.
