Thanks and MFA/Econometer success

Big thanks to forum for the tips on dashboard bulbs and gearbox switches.

Changed various dash bulbs from 1.2W to 2.3W, reconnected the melted (!) econometer vacuum pipe reinserted the dashboard and it all works!

Although I have now worked out that either the shift light, or the econometer works - not both at the same time…….. tsk   I guess this makes sense - once you're in fifth there are no more gears to worry about. Although it does suggest that VW expected Golf drivers only to use first - fourth gears for accelerating to warp speed, and not to want to cruise around at 50 in fourth. Perceptive chaps…

My gearbox doesn't have the switch that tells the MFA you're in fifth gear and switches on the econometer. I'm going to add a toggle switch to the dash to do this so I'll be able to switch between change light and econometer in any gear (although the econometer is probably only reasonably accurate in fifth). If your Golf has an MFA dash but not the gearbox switch - this might be a way to make it work.

About the oil light and low oil pressure buzzer - my golf has one in the dash with a pull/push switch on it - anyone know whether this is an on/off switch?  If so - what's on and what's off?

Going to bolt on the new bumper and radiator this weekend. Then drop the top and go for a cruise. Can't wait
