speedo question

the speedo on my gti cad reads about about 15-20mph to much once it gets above about 5mph the speedo was a second hand unit so i thought that maybe it need a different end on the cable (was orange so put a white one on, but it seems to have made little or no difference.

is there a way i can calabrate it or is there a simpler solution???

The speedo is basicly three parts . The head , the cable and the plastic drive in the gear box . What you do is first replace the plastic drive pinion [cheap] and see what happens , if still the same change the cable [?35.00] . Lastly you will then know its the head and thats the bad bit as VW want ?120.00 + for a new one .

Good luck, the Haynes manual shows how to replace the bits . My Golf had a faulty head and i was lucky to get a second hand one from Ebay but the price of these has rocketed and you can not guarantee they will work .


Check you have the correct plastic drive first , there are 3 different types , your local VW Dealer may be able to help .
