Speedo/ mileometer problems.

Hi was just wondering if anybody could help.
I have a 89 clipper and the problem is the speedo works fine however the mileometer and trip only seem to work infrequently, once a day max and usually first drive of the day.
    Any ideas please.  Thanks

No, you solve them before you lose track of the mileage and its too far out - otherwise you'd need to declare its "unknown mileage" and your reasonable + a little bit, could be viewed as mega mileage and suspicous!

Apparently the little cogs can wear out, its a case of stripping it internally and fiddling around like a Swiss watch, I think. Or, fitting another (and carefully adjusting the reading to reflect the car's actual mileage, of course).

Excellent thanks for that. I do want to fix it as its just one of those niggley little problems that will bug me until I do.

im having the same problem, is it just a case of replacing the drive cog on the gear box??

if so how do you know which one to buy and where can you get them from?

ive got a 1457cc gx 1983 manual box.

No

If the speedo is working but the mileometer isn't, then its internal to the speedo and nothing to do with the gearbox or cable.

So I need to replace the clocks?

TBH I've never taken a speedo apart so I'm unsure if it would fix it. If you're adept, and want to try fix it at no cost, there's nothing to lose.
