Speedo light not working?

Hey guys im hoping someone can help me out. A few months ago i left my MK1 Clipper with a local 'vw specialist' to get it ready for mot.

When driving my clipper home, i immediatly noticed none of my gauges were working , speedo, rev counter and my mileage clock had gone back to zero.  I took it back up to him he muttered something about bad connection and fixed it, ive no idea what he did as i wasnt permitted in the garage  :dontknow: .

Now ive just noticed that my speedo dosent light up at night time and my clock had yet reset itself to zero, but my speedo and rev counter are still working.

I checked my manual for fuse location but couldnt find anything realating to it, then i thought it could just be a bulb, but then why would the clock have reset itself?

Someone please tell me theres a simple easy to fix explantion for this?

Cheers

Clock would reset itself it the battery was disconnected - maybe a dodgy earth??

You can buy brighter 2W bulbs from VW so buy some of those, replace them all and then you'll know it it's your bulb that has blown.

thanks worth having a look.

does the whole dash have to come out to get into the bulbs?

No, just the panel that surrounds the clocks, switches, heater & radio, you can then get at the two fixings that hold the instrument pod in place to remove it.

thanks it seems that the heater control noobs need to come off to remove it also, there seems to be away of getting at the top two to get them off but the bottom one is hidden under the linkages for the top two how do you  get them off? and get at the bottom one?

Just PUUUUUUUUUULL! The fan switch is a tricky one, you'll need to gently prize the switch connector off the back of the panel. OR you could just leave it connected and spin the surround to the left out of your way. Be careful when detaching the various switches from their wiring, they tend to explode showering your car with springs and tiny bits of copper. My advice is to use a thin plastic tool, or a flat head screw driver covered in insulation tape to again prize the block connectors off gently until loose.
