Some silly questions :)

Hey… again.

Just got a few small, and probably silly questions

Firstly, on my cabby I have three holes in the centre console, just above a storage pocket… Is there meant to be something in them holes?

Also, I can see a MPG counter on the dashboard, however, it doesnt seem to do anything at all. Is this a usual problem? Or is it working in some wierd and wonderful VW way that I will never understand?

The 3 holes are for vdo gauges like battery voltage, oil temp but were not fitted to all golfs. if they werent fitted there should be a blanking plate to cover the holes up. The MPG on the dash I assume mean top middle with an amber light that comes on when you need to change gear? It does have a needle but I don't know of many people having this working including myself.

The needle only moves when 5th gear is engaged - usually the plug on top of the gear box has corroded up - you usually can clean it.

The orange light lights up based on vacuum.

Hmm, may have to find one of them blanking plates

And no, it doesnt work at all…
Ade, is it easy to clear that corrosion off the top of the gearbox?
