slow window wipers

right okay.. new to the scene and preparin my 1981 gti for the sunny weather this year ha. when i flick on my front wipers they crawl. any reason for this?.. i'm gettin 12 volts to the motor and stripped that down checked connections and it all seems good? is it time to buy a new motor or have i missed something?.. any feedback would be helpfull

The spindles are plated, over time the plate wears through and the steel underneath rusts !!
You can take them apart and clean them up and regrease them, this helps a lot, if the corrosion inside is really bad they can be hard to push through the housing though.
GPC use to do replacement spindles, not sure if they still do though.

They were never the fastest of wipers anyway. Another popular mod is to use a mk2 Golf motor, it hangs the opposite way so you have to do away with the third mount, if you go down this route make sure you get the mk2 plug as well with some wire still attached to splice into you existing loom or fit spade connectors to fit into your existing connector. The wiring colours should match.

You probably need to strip down the wiper linkage and get to the spindle part of the wiper mech, clean them up and regrease them, there must be a guide on here somewhere ????
