Trying to find out which wire in the engine bay is the signal wire for the rev counter?

i believe the negative side of the coil pack will be sufficent.

yes the terminal 1/-ve side of the coil is where the rev counter/oil pressure warning circuit gets its signal. generally the wire is red/black
