rev counter wire up?

hi, i no this is a mk1 site, but my daily driver (my mk2) died last week so i brought another one.

wen i 1st brought the old one i put a set of clocks in it instead of the stupid big clock, and the rev counter worked, but i tried the same trick in this one a it didnt work, can any one shed some light.

it is a mk2 golf driver 1.6

The plug which the dash clocks plug into, isn't the same across all models. They are different for pretty much each variation of clocks. So you need to unpick the connectors out of it and put them in in a different order. You'd need both wiring diagrams to cross reference what goes where. The rev counter itself, it triggered by the -ve terminal off the coil - unsure if your car will have the wire from the coil to fusebox, then onto the loom which feeds the instruments, then come out in the plug in some different place though. So you might just need that section of loom (from fusebox to clocks) or you might need to fiddle around with the connectors too.

I changed a few mk2 clocks to rev counter ones with no problems! May be broken wire/connector! Vw changed from 2 plugs to 1 plug on the cluster in 89/90! Single plug clusters have hazard light switch on steering coloum!

i tried 3 different clocks today lol, and no of them worked and i couldnt really see the wires on the coil, but i think the green wire from the dizzy might control it

from looking at wiring diagrams all day and my engine bay, i think i have found it, a red/black wire from the coil, goes to a green wire coming out the back of my clocks....... only problem is there are 2 green wires
