rev counter not working, how to fix?

hi, i am looking at buying a mk1 golf. the only down side is the rev counter isnt workin. has anyone exerienced this and how hard is it to sort out?
any help would be much appreciated.

Check that there's a connection at the coil as the rev counter feed is separate to the 12V feed. It's easy enough to remove the dash and swap out the rev counter section.
