Take a wire directly from pin 1 of the coil (blue wire I think from memory, the one on top of the coil not the 3 pin plug to the coil unit) and run it into the red/black wire that runs to the dash binnacle from pin B19 on the fusebox.

or just buy a set of cheap clocks without a rev counter use the pin out on the ecu to a aftermarket rev counter pod mounted on the dash

mine doesnt work but thats purely cos im a flid and i broke it lol

mr purple, that doesn't really make sense as i only have the 3 pin plug on coil and the coil lead to dizzy. are you thinking of something else??

i take it you have the later style coil thats all in one then, try green/blue wire from ecu connected to red/black to dash, seems to work sometimes and othertimes doesn't for some reason, one of the many things i need to look at in more depth by checking the signal with a oscilloscope.

Bit of a thread resurrect, mrpurple how did you go about getting your rev counter working on your 20v? I have got my loom converted, and have the tacho and ecu wires ready to connect up to a jabbasport converter box, but is there another way using resistors or similar? There is a bit of info out there for mk2's, but a lot less for mk1's! As bigadd said above, im trying to keep mine as close to standard inside as possible and keep everything looking factory :D

the mk3 rev counter signal comes from ecu, and this doesnt work with mk1/2 dash. 2 options:
1. open the flap on the side of the MK3 coil and run your rev counter wire to the -ve terminal under there
2. throw mk3 coil in bin, chop coil plug off.
fit MK2 Golf coil + tci unit, plus the loom from tci to coil. chop dizzy plug off mk2 tci loom, splice green/red wire from old mk3 coil plug to pin 6 on the TCI-h unit. tape up other 2 tci dizzy wires as not needed. plug black wire from old mk3 coil plug to +ve/15 side of coil. run rev counter wire to -ve/1 side of coil. tape up brown wire to mk32 coil plug as not needed.
