removing a car alarm

Hi

I've just  started stripping out the dash of a recently acquired cabby to track down a leak. The wiring behind is a bit of a shambles with some lashed up radio wiring and there's a serpi star alarm which I doesn't work and joined to everything with insulation tape I'm just a bit nervous of ripping out the alarm in case there are nasty immobiliser tricks. It's an old type, not even listed on the Abacus website.
Anyone got any thoughts?

an imobbilizer only cuts a circit,  usualy the ignition power or the fuel pump,  just look at the wires from the alarm and see where they go, find two that brake the same color wire circit and join them

well said foxy my sentiments exactly but be aware that they may have shortened the wires when fitting to stop the immobiliser being ripped out and someone jemmy rigging wiring to nick your car

Thanks guys. Like I said , I 'll give it a go( but probably not till weekend!)

It looks as though a couple of wires go direct to the coil from the alarm unit so it occurred to me that if they  removed the original wires to the coil and then fed both sides of the LT circuit direct from the unit, then removing all the unit wiring would leave the coil without any juice at all.
But we'll see.  While I'm here does anyone know if Haynes wiring diagrams are sufficiently universal? My cabby is a GLI clipper auto and when I looked in Halfords some time ago , I thought the MK 1 repair manual excluded some models.

put your location in you profile so i can see if you live close enough to help

Hi
'Fraid not!
I'm all the way up north in bonny bonny Scotland ( Paisley, just outside Glasgow  to be exact).
But I appreciate the very idea.
I'll take the wiring one very careful step at a time, as I said. It really is good to know that help is at hand. Thanks for the support!
