Relay location help....

I need some help identifying which relays are missing from my fusebox in my continuing struggle to sort out the little electrical issues with my golf. It's a 1983 GX and has the later fusebox with the blade type fuses.

I'm struggling to find any info (despite searching on here and flicking through the pretty unhelpful Haynes) so hopefully someone here may be able to assist.

These are the relays which are fitted. The relay in position number 2  has the number 1 printed on it:

There are no other relays on the top row.

Can anyone tell me what is missing from the top row please.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

As said not all relay slots actually have relays in them, mine has quite a few empty slots too :)

Thanks for the replies :)

The problem I have relates to the headlights, and the only reference I can find to a headlight relay says it should live in position 15 (dim/dip headlight)

I don't have a position 15 - so can anyone tell me where my main headlight relay should be living? I know position number 7 relates to the fog lights - it's the main headlight one I am after.

Thanks,

Tom

Don't think there is one, thats why the headlight wiring, dash switch and dip/main beam stalk are always melting…..

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Ahh I see….well that would make sense them about them melting all the time!

Basically the main lights don't operate - only the full beam or side lights. See here for more info on the problem:

Any further advice apreciated - possibly within that thread to keep things together and orderly for any other poor soul perplexed by electrical misfortunes!

I take it you checked the fuses 21 and 22 (the end ones) as they seem to relate to dipped beam

Notice you run a Rover.. I have a Turbo/manifold/oxysensor thats only done 8k from a Rover 220 coupe if you should ever need one :)

When you turn on full beam via the stalk does it latch on, ie another pull of the stalk needed to switch off. Or only come on while you pull/hold the stalk back.

Full beam will flash , ie not latch on regardless of the position of the light switch. So that could be unrelated.

could be the fuses 21+22 as already mentioned by timmyturtle or possibly the connection to you headlight switch or the switch itself.

As i cant see the extra relay at the top of the fuse box, no 61 on myn, well as you look at it, can we also assume yours doesnt have the extra lights in the main grill.

With no lights or side lights it does not latch, only flashes. With the headlamp switch on position 2 (fully on) then full beam latches on

I have a four light grill - with all wiring and everything as it appears it should be.

I have resurected the thread directly relating to this here so as not to confused things for people searching in the future:

Any further assistance you could give would be most appreciated :)
