permanent supply to ignition major problem

hi, was wondering if anyone could help me. i have a dx engine 1.8 8v and when i connect the battery, battery light comes on oil light etc which i think it should.
the problem is when turn the ignition, the enigne turns but no spark i cannot hear the fuel pump kicking in and then i take out the keys from the ignition and the battery light stays on. i have been told i have permament supply to the igintion but all the cables are black going to the ignition and as electrics scare me i am now lost.
i have even disconnected the fuseboard and the light still is on. i have check te coil, dizzy and put new plugs in.
any suggestion would be a great help. :banghead:

could be the ignition switch, the battery light should not come on till the ignition is switched on. disconnect the plug to the ignition switch, if the dash still stays on you have a short somewhere, if dash goes off then its probably the ign switch.  not hard to replace, remove wheel & stalks, pull ign lock housing off and there is 1 screw holding ign switch to housing

Also try disconnecting the alternator/plug that'll at least give you an indication.
