Parking light switch?

On my Golf cabrio (1985) there's a push/pull switch mounted in the dash just to the left and below the steering wheel. A buzzer is integrated with this switch and there are two wires exiting it - one large diameter (2mm) and red, one small diameter (0,5mm) and also red (I think - colours may vary).

I've worked out what it does…I think…I'm just not sure why. With the ignition on, engine not running, and lights on, it switches the headlights on/off, leaving the sidelights on. It also seemed to buzz if the high beam was flashed without the engine runnning.

So - is this a parking light activation switch? Does anyone else have one? Or am I….special. 8O
