Oil pressure buzzer

Ok, i have read all the posts on this forum regarding the buzzer in the dash. Basically my oil buzzer has started buzzing above 2K rpm. the oil pressure light is not illuminating. the LED does work as when i start the engine up it lights up then goes out.

I believe its some sort of earthing/electrical problem possibly?  :dontknow: As the engine is not burning oil and runs sweet.

Any help would be much appreciated.

1983 Golf GTI

I am now pretty sure it's the instrument panel earth as the lights for the Speedo, rev counter and MFA also went out today. Also on cold starts in the morning the MFA will reset itself, and sometimes when driving the rev counter will almost stop working and MFA will be blank.

Can any one point me to the earth connection for the instrument panel behind the dash? I have already put a new connector on the rocker cover earth and soldered the join. Is there another one I can look at?  :dontknow:

After looking at my Haynes manual it says there is, but not sure where it is. Can anyone help and possible post a picture please? Any help would be much appreciated.

most likely on the earthing cluster behind the fuse board.

Ok, so if i take the fuse board off i should see the earthing point there?

Has anyone got a pic please?

you dont have to take the fuse board out to see it. look at the fuse box then look to the right at the bulk head.

mfa and oil buzzer are normally a failure on the console as apposed to an earthing issue.

Ok so i have just had a look at the rosette of earths next to the fuse box under the passenger footwell, it all looked fine apart from a spade connector with no brown earth to it. I had a look but could not see where this has gone.  :dontknow:

My car is booked in for its service on the 20th and they are going to look at it for me, but i did want to sort it myself. Cant see the rosette of earths behind the instrument panel either. All wires behind the dash look good.

The Earthing point for the instrument panel can be found on the cylinder head, usually on one of the cam cover bolts, I think it is connected to there to make the instruments more accurate, a broken or nearly broken cable here will usually cause havoc with the instrument lights, rev counter and trip computer, not sure if it would affect the high speed oil pressure buzzer though ;-)
