Oil light controlled by handbrake!

My oil light is occasionally staying on (often quite dim) after I start the car, no buzzer though. I think its a wiring fault as it gos off in conjunction with the handbrake warning light, when I relase the handbrake. Only seems to happen in damp conditions and only when starting for first time that day. Not really that hot on electrics, but is this something to do with a bad earth?

It's probably related to a bad connection(s) earth or otherwise.  Particularly when damp or cold the poor connection is worse causing current leakeage to another circuit.

Cheers Crazyquif - assume that I need to be looking at the wiring behind the dash?

I'd start by cleaning the earth rossette on the right of the fuse box.  Cheack all other earths in the engine bay and while you are at it the one in the rear corner of the boot…
