Oil light and Buzzer...

Hi, ive just got a '85 cabrio and at about 2100 revs going at around 45mph the red oil light comes on and a buzzer sounds. If i lift my foot off the accelerator then the noise stops even when i put it back, well for about 5 mins - than it starts again. Ive changed the oil and this hasn't helped, it doesn't seem to be losing oil either. Please Help!
Cheers Stu.

Sounds like it's either a faulty oil pressure sensor or faulty oil pump.

the sensor screws in to the side of the cylinder head.

There are gazillions of posts on this sensor, and the buzzing it causes.

Have a look through and you should be able to work out how to test that it works.

If it does work - you might have a shot oil pump - which is a bit more complicated to get at, but not outrageously so.

Haynes Manual has info on checking pump.

That is eactly how it should work, the buzzer comes on after 2000 rpm as well as the light. Check the sensor as I had one fail and was leaking oil past the spade connection.

I would suggest gettign the oil pressure checked with an external guage to be on the safe side.

Oil pressure is controlled by the oil bump pushing oil through the crankahft baearings so low pressure is either worn pump or worn crankshaft bearings!

Agree Robb, sounds like its working exactly as it should. Check oil pressure as may not be a wiring fault.
