oil buzzer help

I just replaced the low pressure oil sensor on the side of the engine block (1992 Clipper 1.8 Carb), started the engine and revved it a little and the oil light and buzzer have come on.

There were no problems before I changed the sensor (I changed it because oil was leaking from it).

I have searched the site and it sounds like either the other sensor or clocks.  I am guessing that as there were no problems before it isn't the clocks…

Is it likely to be a new problem with the high pressure sensor by the oil filter, something I might have disturbed or something that I haven't thought of??

Any help is much appreciated, I thought it would be a simple job today and i'd be able to take it out for it's first drive of the year!!!

Cheers, Steve

Thanks for replying, I got the low pressure one from Volksbits, I checked with them before I bought it. It isn't a vw part as the plastic bit is black, also most pics of the sensor show a metal washer on the thread but mine doesn't have one… although neither did the original one!!

I guess I need to replace the other sensor too but it seems odd that there were no problems until I changed the sensor!!

Help!!!  :banghead:

OK, I think it is a problem with the wiring, not the dash. When I rev beyond 2000 revs sometimes the buzzer comes on and stays on, other times it either buzzes for a second or doesn't buzz at all!

I think there is something wrong with the wire to the high pressure sensor or possibly the sensor itself. I have bought a new high pressure sensor but haven't had the chance to fit it yet.

To make matters worse I drove the Golf to buy the sensor and managed to lock myself out in the car park!!! But I managed to unlock it with a plastic ruler!!!

I guess you had a leak from the original one because it never had the washer. I'd be tempted to get a new washer and fit the old sender unit. I seem to recall someone doubting the quality of the non-VW type. Have a look on the unit and see what BAR range it is.

See if that works and if not then it's a process of elimination until you solve the buzzer problem.

My driver has much the same issue, its running a 1.8 with twin 40's and most mornings it will buzz away once it gets to approx 2000 rpm, though mine (im sure) is an issue with the clocks because if i gently push the top right corner of the speedo binacle it stops the buzz. normaly have to do this 2 or 3 times until its warmed up a bit then its fine.

i do have a set of spare clocks to hopefully resolve the problem.

The original low pressure sensor was leaking through the plastic bit in the middle, the new one doesn't leak at all.

Another quick question… can I change the high pressure sensor without having to drain the oil?

Yes, but make sure you haven't just switched off the engine or you'll have a mini geyser !
