Nothing works.....nothing help!

I have a 83 gti which the original wiring was terrible so i removed all the in car harnesses and fuse box to re wire and tidy up. The rear light conections were not all conected so got a new rear loom from crazy quiff but it was an earlier loom, not sure of year so i cut off all off the rear conections and joined on the new un broken loom just past the fuel pump wires. All conections were soldered and heat shriked for neatness. During this time the car has been put on axle stands and had steering rack off, gearbox mount etc there was a earth strap underneath going from gearbox to body, is this important?? it was in bad condition and still not attached. The problem is that now the only thing that works is the parking light no driving light, hazards, reverse light nothing.
And when i switch the ignition on the fuel pump doesn't prime and blows the fuel pump fuse… im sure the fuse box is conected up corectly as i've used the diagrams in this forum, has anyone got any ideas i cant remeber how it was originally connected at the fuse box but it wasn't the same as it the fuse box layouts here im really confused    i just want the lights to all work properly this is the only thing holding me back from an mot.

Hi i have read this post a few times to find an answer that may help you but have come to the conclusion that a hands on would be better . You could do with some local help ? It may be worth posting your location and asking or its a local auto electrician and that means ?????
