non starting after smoke

my clipper started fine ran to the end of the drive and smoked me out!
popped the bonnet and the wires under the carb were melted through and now it wont start.
iv checked the fuses and replaced the horn and indicator ones which were blown but neither of these work now and i also botched some wires in to reconnect everything but the dam thing wont start.
it turns over just wont fire up?
iv only just got it running following spluttering and cutting out and just had it taxed and mot'd.
i want to sell it asap and i dont wanna spend any more money on it. it owes me nearly 3 grand now and its probably not worth 2. help please somebody!!!!! :banghead:  :banghead:

Probabyl the wire to hold the fuel shutoff valve open, sounds like its worn through then burnt out, or something. If/when you do replace it, make sure its clipped or cable tied so it can't rub anywhere and takes a sensible path to the other end.

its the wire that runs along in front of the carb. theres one from under the carb which was connected to two from in the car running through the bulkhead and one at the top of the carb. these ran along in front and connected to some more wires at the other side. why dont the indicators or horn work now? replaced the fuse yesterday with a cheapo one for the horn when it blew trying to straighten the steering wheel. false economy! that one melted and now the cars dead.
dont you just love mk1's
