noisy fuel pump

anybody know if my fuel pump is dying its making a disturbing noise constantly, have had a number of fuel issues ie fuel neck, wouldn't start,now its got an intermittant missfire when taking power after changing gear, could it be not supplying enough fuel cos its on its last legs, was told when i bought car in jan that the pump was only just done. its an 88 cab 1.8 by the way. :?

Clean the tank out , replace all filters , budget for renewal of both pumps [just in case the above does not help] .

the lift pump was peplaced the day before i bought the car [it was bought from sister inlaw] so wouldn't think that would need doing what do you recon, have done a complete service on it ie plugs, leads, distributer, rotor arm, fuel filter, oil filter so thought it would run sweet , it starts fine now i replaced the fuel relay on saturday cos the old one had manky connectors, could the missfire be a prob with fuse box.

Depends how bad it is , problems can occur with fuel relay connections in the fuze box or relay its self cutting off but from experince with MK1's if you have had fuel neck rot and the tank and all filters are not clean !!!! Noisy pump can mean 'i am straining to pump' help .

nice one matey will try the filter on main pump, didn't know it had one , and i think there is one on the lift pump does that hang off the fuel level sender unit :dontknow:  :dontknow:

hey bud your fusebox is probably water damaged if your relay is corrodrd looking,mine same kind of problem with fuel pump relayjust got a fusebox so fingers crossed that will solve mine best of luck
