No Indicators and engine still runs with key removed? 1.8GTI

Right Was doing final mot checks on mt gti ( 1.8 ) on Thursday night, took the car for a run up and down the street, got back and went to check the indicators via the hazard switch and there was nothing there. And Nothing if I used the indicator stalk on its own?

So I thought fubar, so puled the car onto the drive to have a look, went to turn of the car and when I removed the key from the ignition the car was still running!

Something Is shorting I think. Ive Got an auto electrician coming Friday afternoon but any of you guys reckon you know whats up or you?ve had the same problem before?

have you tried the ignition switch mate becos i had the same problem with my work van took the key out and the van run for up to half an hour.
