no fuel,spark or starter motor!

hi,i was just wondering if anybody has had a problem gettin fuel to the front of the car and no spark on a '83 gti campaign? i can hear the relays clicking when i turn the key but there is no buzz from the fuel pump and no spark.the starter was spinning and the engine was turning over but no fuel or spark.so i made a note of where everything on the fuse board went and removed it from the car, i cleaned up all the terminals and checked all the fuses, i then fitted the fuseboard back, only to find the same clicking coming from the relays in the fuse board, but now the starter wasn't working  :banghead:  i had a look inside the fuseboard and all looked to be ok,with no broken tracks or terminals, the car has a sigma alarm but this seems to be working fine, and doesn't explain why the starter was working, and now isn't!  if anybody has come across the same problem, please help as i am starting to lose my temper with the car!

I'd leave the fuse box alone for now, take a look at the battery terminals or the back of the ignition switch. Sometimes the plastic lug at the bottom of the starter switch can wear out. Pull off the plug to the back of the starter switch and try and hot wire it to test. Individual components such as the starter motor are easy to check by wiring directly off the battery.Start at the battery and work back.

are you 100% sure you put the wires back correctly? sounds like you have not put the trigger wire for the starter back on the right terminal.
as for your 1st problem if your pump has gone down you may loose the spark, it may be the fuel injection relay, they are not to expensive and easy to swap, it should be the relay in the second space from the left, on the top row, an original relay should have number 2 printed on the top. but with the mileage getting higher on the mk1's the ignition switch as mentioned above is also worth checking.

i've got the fuel pump working now and got the starter working aswell, still no spark though, the wires that run inside the car from the coil have been cut for some reason, i don't suppose anybody would know where these should go?

by the way the car will be up for sale when the work is completed due to me being too young to qualify for classic car insurance  :banghead:

the car is a 1983 golf gti campaign, EW chassis number, its alpine white colour,it was stood for 5 years before i got the car,it had a replacement gearbox and head the cylinder head rebuilt before it was taken off the road.the car has koni adjustable suspension and drilled front discs and fast road pads.i've had all the welding done on the car in the last month, this included the roof as it had filler in the drainage channels,it has all been plated up with steel and doesn't leak.the car has a jetex exhaust system fitted and a  k & n panel filter,it has 15" alessio alloys which have been painted gloss back to match the side strips on the car.its had a pair of new front tyres, its not even done a mile on these,oh and the car has a high lift piper cam fitted,90% of the work is documented for, with over ?10,000 spent on the car in the few years leading up to it being taken off the road.the interior is in great condition for the mileage of the car, with no stains, rips or tears, and the bolsters on the front seats aren't worn at all…which is great considering the car has done 184,000. the car will be sold with a full m.o.t. the car has a 5 slot aftermarket single lamp grille, but i still have the original campaign grille.the car had had new rubber fuel lines made and fitted and new brake pipes made and fitted.i think thats about it,there is alot to this car and i really don't want to part with it  :(
