No blower or switches working!

I have no blower fan or switches/washer & indcator stalks working, checked all fuses (ok)
Also checked earths running in.
I have a separate ign circuit for my g60 loom.
Can anyone help?

Sounds like the X relay has either failed, or the connections are corroded or something similar. Basically, there is a circuit which is live with ignition on and ignition start - this controls the basics like coil, etc to get the engine running. There is another circuit to which almost all the electrical items on the Mk1 Golf are attached to, this works with the ignition on but not in the "start" position, and this is switched on and off by a relay.

and the relay number is 17 or 18 if its later blade fusebox car

Relay 17 at fault no earth from fusebox end, plenty going in though!!
when i do connect an eart to relay blower comes on, but back wiper runs constant & no front wipers at all. But i do have front wash bottle working!
is it worth changing fuse box for a newer version out of a cabby,would it be worth changing it for a 85 onwards as mine is an 83 that was stood in someones back garden for ages.
 

is it the type with the blade fuses? if so you can use mk1 post 83 or pre-90 mk2 golf fusebox.  does sound like that one has issues!  the main fusebox earth for the blade fusebox comes off the wiper motor earth which is plug D pin 22. see the fusebox sticky

Hi have got myself bogged down with this wiring, ended up changing the whole fusebox, but still have rear wiper on permanently & front not working at all with relay buzzing loads. trying to creat a better earth for every circuit, but still no change anymore ideas chaps????

have a read thru that, in particular look at the relay position guide and the list that shows what all the relays do. i wonder if you have some that are mixed up?

Have checked they are all in sequence, will try swapping relays from other fusebox but they all seem to be switching ok? :dontknow:

did you check the main fusebox earth to D/22 like i said above? there should be 2 brown wires to this pin, 1 goes to the front wiper the other should have a spade on the end. also make sure the earth claw above the fusebox has a good earth. the claw above the fusebox and spade from D/22 should both earth to a chunky brown wire coming off the lighting loom. it has a big white multi spade jumper block on it.

without that earth nothing will work right, most things wont work and other things will try to earth via other circuits i.e. thru the rear wiper motor maybe
