No acc for the radio or the roof mrk 1 cab h reg

Hello everyone,

so here my problem i have no acc feed to my stereo i check all fuses they are all ok ,at the same time the roof has stop working , i have check the ign and  it seems to be ok .

My thinking is that a relay some where in the car is not switching the acc circuit in,so that means no power to radio or power to the hood circuit.

can any one tell which relay should switch in the acc for the stereo and hood, a picture disuse would  be nice .

I know this fault has been talk about before but know one has come up with a solution as yet , maybe we can put this fault to rest for the first time .

Thanks

andrew

What do you mean acc feed?

The radio SHOULD be wired to be on all the time, so there's only really 2 connections needed (power and earth), not 3 like some other cars. If its stopped working then check the obvious.

No idea about electric hoods myself, can't help there.

This is the feed tat turns the stereo on when you turn the key to the first position in the barrel .

The connection socket has +12v straight from the battery which is used for the memory on radio, and the acc which is used to  turn the stereo on and off by the key.

so for some reason i have no acc now

thanks for your reply

No, the Mk1 Golf radio isn't wired like this, the radio works no matter if the ignition is on or off. Indeed the Mk1 doesn't have an accessory position on the ignition switch, unlike more modern cars.

If someone's wired your stereo how you suggested, its non-standard.

Now you're saying your non standard stereo wiring doesn't work - sounds like its been bodged in the past, basically!!!

So you'll need to physically trace the wires and see where they've taken the "acc" from for their bodge, which now doesn't work properly.

Or do the later cabbys have an accessory position?  :dontknow:  :dontknow:

well this connector has no cuts in it or any attach wiring so i would say that is how it came .

The radio i took out did have the same behavior , no key in ign no power to stereo , key to first contact backlight come on radio comes on .

late cabbys with electric hoods have the acc position on the key. as soon as you put the key in but not turned it makes a switch which powers the radio and the hood circuit. first find the wire which is from this switch and see if it works, but your right it most probably is a relay will try to have a look at mine and see which relay it is

Aaaah! Apologies, the hatchbacks and I guess the earlier cabbys don't have an accessory position on their ignition switch. I suspected the later cabbys with electric hood might be like this, I worked on one once (never again - long story) and its ignition switch was dodgy, it certainly didn't click a relay or turn an accessory circuit on with the key inserted. It needed a wiggle and a bit of luck! I assumed someone had bodged that car.

Hey paul_c

no worries , this is why the forum is a good place ,  their is a lot of knowledge out their, and some people have had different experiences with different models.

i blame the companies ,always changing bits  so  the common man has  to go to them just to change a fuse.
