NEWBIE!! headlight problem!

i have just brought a d reg 1.8gti cab with a headlight promlem, i have changed the switch but still the same, the side lights come on but the normal lights wont come on, but when u flash the high beam light they come on but it wont stay on hi beam????

anyone help please!!!

Sounds like the switch in the steering column is bad. You can test this by removing the connection and jumping the terminals for the lights. If the low beams work when the wires are bridged then the switch itself is bad (mine went two months ago also). Keep in mind that the switch is in the wiper stalk part and not the headlight flasher stalk.

could this be the reason y my wipers dont work also??? so anyone got a working stalk for sale!!!

Yes could be the reason or maybe the plugs on them are just not attached. They are cheap from the dealer, can't remember exactly but maybe 20 to 25 euro or even less.

right changed the stalk still nothing!!!! i bridged a wire from the headlight wire to a live and the lights came on????? but then i wired a switch to the cable but the lights were really dim????
