need help! indicators are giving me jip

hi guys and girls. im new to the whole mk1 thing and just want to ask some advice basically. im the proud owner of a mk1 cab which is slowly becoming a project of mine. right so far i've lowered it 40mm and got some 13" superlights and done a few other bits and bobs. i've decided to de bumper it but for some reason the indicators dont work, its probably down to the fact that the front indicators are disconnect but for the life of me i cant find out why they aren't work. i think its down to the ground but i've tried everything. i know people have been de bumpering them for years but how in gods name do you get them to work :banghead: . any advice would be much appreciated  :redfaced:

The indicators are located in the bumper. Remove the bumper, and of course the fronts won't work! The rears (and side repeaters if you have them) will flash at a fast rate, which is deliberate, and is a warning that one of the bulbs is out - literally in your case.

Simplest fix would be to re-fit the front bumper.

they arent working at all. when i put the hazards on they flash dim then nothing. i know what happens when a bulb blows but its not that. so how come people with de bumpered dubs indicators still work. i've found that it is a common problem with mk1 but i have tried everything that people have suggested evn from dub garages

You need front indicators.....

You really do need front indicators mate, the majority of de-bumpered cars mount indicators behind the grille or small ones similar to motorbike ones on the grille or in the chassis legs where the bumper irons mount.

The quickest and easiest way is to get your original units out of your bumper and cable tie them behind the grille. Connect everything back into the circuit and them start fault finding from there if they still don't work.

The last thing you want is to be posting up on here in a month or so saying you've had a crash or even worse - someone is dead because you though it would look cool to have no indicators! Sounds melodramatic I know but it's not worth it!

i do have fronts but i couldn't get them to work. i should of said really. they are smoke side repeaters that i've put in them in the 2 of the larger holes in the valance. i've seen posts on here where where they have had the same problems such as the dash light constantly on dim until you indicate them they stay on but not work. i've used a multi meter on each connection and changed the relay the whole works but nothing

That's why - because you're trying to use side repeaters as front indicators. They are the wrong wattage. To cure this, add a resistor in parallel. You can work out the right rating of resistor using Ohm's law.
