my battery light isnt coming on and alt not charging

hiya everyone,
need to rack your brains. ive got a 1983 driver and the battery isnt charging and the bulb in the dash
wont light up.
the cause of all this was my brother and i getting some wires mixed up when fitting a cd player the
power was coming off the cigarette lighter (someone has hacked into it before) so we got the wires the
wrong way round blowing a few fuses in the process. now after that the battery light in the dash didnt light up
and the battery wasnt charging.
so ive been online done all my research had a new alternator ive checked the blue D+ wire. now on friday
i had the dash out and discovered the bulb had blown, so i replaced it with a new one but still no luck in the
light coming on and i dont think the battery is charging still.

has anybody any idea what to do? this is my daily so needs to be sorted asap

cheers Mitch

make sure that with engine running with all stuff electric wise off you are getting over 13V across the battery.

That shows the alternator is charging the battery.

Does the battery hold a charge? You will find out that you wont be able to start the car.

There is a voltage regulator on the back of some clocks that can can go.
Or the PCB  foil on the back can be damaged.

You need to trace back what you did and check all the wires and fuses to see if you can find the damage.

get some pics up if you can of any damaged areas.

if the light isnt coming on then the blue wire is gone somewhere, without that the battery wont charge/ check the end of the blue wire at the alternator gets 12v with the ignition on. have you checked the dash fuses are all ok, and dos the oil pressure light come on with the ignition

I've checked the blue wire where it enters the clock unit, all fuses are fine,  I don't think the oil pressure light comes on I will check when I get home from sixth form
